MADISON —  The continued growth of Wisconsin’s stem cell industry, from research breakthroughs to commercial products, will be the topic of the Tuesday, April 24, meeting of the Wisconsin Innovation Network in Madison.
Dr. Anita Bhattacharyya, senior scientist at the UW-Madison’s Waisman Center, will talk about the basic science of stem cell research —as well as recent discoveries related to brain cell regeneration. She will be joined after her presentation by Chris Parker, vice president and chief commercial officer for Cellular Dynamics International of Madison.
The luncheon will be held at the Sheraton Hotel on Madison’s John Nolen Drive. Registration and networking begin at 11:30 a.m., lunch at noon and the presentation at 12:30 p.m. The cost is $25 for WIN members, $35 for non-members and included with WIN corporate memberships.
“Wisconsin continues to be a leader in stem cell research and development, with a growing cluster of scientists as well as companies that are working to improve human health,” said Tom Still, president of the Wisconsin Technology Council. “The partnerships being built here in Wisconsin are important to the state, the nation and the world.”
Bhattacharyya completed her bachelor’s degree zoology from UW-Madison and a PhD in anatomy and cell biology from the University of Cincinnati Medical School. Her laboratory is focused on Down syndrome and Fragile X syndrome, two genetic developmental disorders.
Parker is responsible for sales, marketing and business development at CDI. He has more than 20 years of life science experience industry at companies such as Affymetrix and Amersham Pharmacia.
