J.P. Olson is putting together the first annual Women Empowerment Summitt
The first annual Today's Women Empowerment Summit will be a chance for women to take a break and unwind, to socialize, to network, and to enjoy a weekend packed with activities and excitement.
“We want to encourage and empower women in all areas of their lives,” says organizer J.P. Olson in an interview with The Madison Times. “It’s going to be a weekend of excitement and activity …. revitalization and rejuvenation. It’s for real women. [We have] real answers.
The event will be held Aug. 17-18 at the Marriott Hotel in Middleton.
“It’s an important networking event… a chance to meet all kinds of people. When you network, you never know what it might lead to,” Olson says. “It may open doors to employment. If you want to make change in your educational life, occupational life, health, spirituality — all of this — this will be the event to attend.”
Olson had previously been involved with Women’s Empowerment Conferences in Atlanta, Chicago, and Seattle. “Since I have come to the Madison area, I’m always looking for events that women are involved in, [looking at] the socioeconomic status of women, the educational status of women. This is an area where I believe that a Women Empowerment Summit would be awesome to do here.”
Olson has been in Madison for five years where she has been an ordained minister with Impact Ministries International. She hosts the weekly talk show “Journey Into the Word with JP Olson,” and is an author, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She is heavily involved with community and social justice causes.
“I like to deal with everyday life and motivation and inspiration to people. I want people to believe in themselves,” Olson says. “That’s basically where my ministry is and where my motivation is. People need to know that they have faith in them. The power to believe.”
Olson realizes that it’s quite a challenge to put together a Today's Women Empowerment Summit in Madison, a smaller city than the ones where the previous summits were hosted. “A first time is always a challenge,” Olson says. “But I love challenges … that’s how I function.”
The event will feature numerous speakers from all walks of life, including a few men. However, men are not allowed to attend the event. There are certain sensitivities towards women subject matter.
“We want the women to be able to share openly about many different personal subjects,” Olson says. “We want them to be comfortable.”
The keynote speaker will be Patricia Russell-McCloud, a phenomenal motivational speaker. She has been preaching her gospel of respect, empowerment, and self- determination to spellbound audiences nationwide for nearly two decades. As national president and longtime member of The Links, Inc., Russell-McCloud works with other professional black women to help create an environment in which high achievement among young African Americans is the rule rather than the exception.
“She is just awesome,” Olson says. “If you look her up online and see some of her audio presentations, you just get chills.”
Through the 1st Today’s Women Empowerment Summit, participants will benefit from content, community, and connections that offer:
• Leadership development
• Professional development
• Mentoring & networking
• Strategic insight & education
• Impact opportunities for local and global community
Today’s Women Empowerment Summit Informative Workshop Sessions will include workshops like “Flawless Beauty: Inside Out,” “Internal & External Makeover, Feel good about you inside & out,” “Life: It’s All about Relationships,” “Learning ‘how to’ apply Life Skills & Tools in balancing relationships,” “Unleashed Power through Effective Prayer,” “The Impact and Power of an Effective Prayer. Understanding How to Pray,” “Retool School: Lifelong Learning for Lifelong Earning,” “Health Tip! Taking Care of YOU,” “Got A DREAM? Say YES and Have SUCCESS!,” and more.
“There are 12 workshop topics — 6 in the a.m. and 6 in the p.m.,” Olson says. “There is great diversity in the topics and we will have some great people leading the workshops.”
Inspiration from leaders across varied industries and disciplines will inspire participants to amplify the role played by emerging women leaders including African and Anglo American, Asian, Hispanic, and Native American women. Women of every race, class, and ethnic background continue to make historic contributions to the growth and strength of human culture. Today’s Women Empowerment Conference will give women the tools to contribute and continue to play important economic, cultural, and social roles in their lives.
“The diversity of women's contribution provides strength and hope to every major social change,” Olson says. “We want to make sure that all women of all ages and races and backgrounds feel comfortable at this event. “We want all women. I have been in contact with all women in all areas.”
The Today’s Women’s Empowerment Summit brings together women to share and exchange individual experiences, encourage women to widen their network and do business with each other; and increase their access to powerful information. The event is for individual women or for women from book clubs, social groups, mother and daughters, women church groups, and friends.
It’s $80 for the entire event that includes all of the meals. Discounts have been worked out at the Marriott Hotel for those coming from Chicago or Milwaukee. Olson is hoping that churches and nonprofits will sponsor women to come who may not be able to afford it.
“My goal is that women become so inspired that they sign up to do it again next year,” Olson says. “I hope that we provide tools to move women forward in life ...that the awareness has increased. I want to see positive results from the Summit. We hope they learn things that they can apply to their everyday lives and they can have something that goes beyond the one day ... and that they feel rejuvenated and revived.
“All of these things will help women who have a dream but may not know how to pursue that dream,” she adds. “If you don’t dream, there’s something missing.”
