
MADISON — In observance of National Hispanic Heritage Month and in remembrance of the important contributions that Latinos have bestowed upon our communities throughout the history of this nation, WLMV - La Movida 1480AM, Mid-West Family Broadcasting, in proud association with Centro Hispano of Dane County are pleased to announce the celebration of the second annual “Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month Luncheon”, Wednesday, Oct. 10, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Warner Park Community Recreation Center.
The event will be hosted by Brenda Gonzalez, president of Centro Hispano’s Board of Directors and attorney Mario Mendoza of Murphy Desmond Lawyers.
Important leaders and representatives of local Latino and non-Latino institutions are expected in attendance, including special guest, City of Madison Mayor Paul Soglin. Also, the following distinguished individuals and entities will be recognized during the luncheon for their contributions to our society. • Community Institution of the Year: UNIDOS Against Domestic Violence
• Community Leader of the Year: Lucía Nuñez, Director, Department of Civil Rights, City of Madison
• Hispanic Achievement of the Year: Juan José López, Director, Department of Workforce Development, Division of Employment and Training; Board President, UMOS
• Hispanic Volunteer of the Year: Salvador Carranza, President, LUChA; Academic Planner, UW System; President, Latino Education Council
• Hispanic Entrepreneurs of the Year: Lino Ruiz and María Luisa Serrano, Owners, El Pastor Mexican Restaurant
Additionally, CUNA Mutual Foundation will present two Community Youth Leadership Awards to deserving youths.
WLMV-La Movida 1480AM is also broadcasting special programming throughout Hispanic Heritage Month in the United States, in which local Latino personalities will be featured.

Each year, the United States honors the contributions that Latinos have made to the nation with a Hispanic Heritage Month celebration that runs from September 15 to October 15. This annual celebration was first established by the US Congress on September 17, 1968, with a weeklong event. In 1988, President Ronald Reagan expanded this celebration to a month.
