MADISON — Habitat for Humanity of Dane County has been awarded $65,500 to build a home in Fitchburg’s Renaissance on the Park Neighborhood, adjacent to the Allied Dunn’s Marsh Neighborhood.
The grant provides 50 percent of the cost of construction, and was given to Habitat for Humanity of Dane County by Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity, a unique partnership between Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and Habitat for Humanity International.
Since 2005, Thrivent Financial has helped 20 families achieve homeownership here in Dane County. Two of those families closed on their 2012 Thrivent Builds sponsored home on Dec. 26. By the New Year, a family of three moved into their home in Stoughton and a family of six have now moved into their home in North Madison.
“We would like to thank Thrivent and all the support they give to low income families and also thanks to all of the volunteers that provide help,” said Jose Gomez. “Without them our dream of becoming a homeowner would not be possible.”
Habitat for Humanity of Dane County was given the $65,500 award in conjunction with the announcement of a national gift made by Thrivent Financial today. The 2013 commitment from the organization is $6.8 million and will push the total giving from Thrivent Financial past $180 million, during the eight-year partnership between the two organizations.
“We are so grateful for Thrivent’s support of our efforts to provide decent, affordable homes in partnership with families in need,” Valerie Johnson, CEO, Habitat for Humanity of Dane County. Thrivent has made a tremendous impact on families with their $1.7 million donation to our affiliate since 2005.”
Habitat for Humanity’s relationship with Thrivent Financial brings the financial, volunteer and advocacy resources of Thrivent Financial together with the affordable housing construction leadership of hundreds of local Habitat for Humanity affiliates. To date, volunteers have donated more than 3.5 million hours to construct 1,922 homes in the U.S.
The 2013 commitment will fund the construction and rehabilitation of 113 Habitat for Humanity homes in 31 states, including the home built by Habitat for Humanity of Dane County.
