Mann Scholars to be honored at the Wisconsin Institute of Discovery Town Center June 7
May 21, 2013
The 2013 Mann Scholars Ceremony will be held at the at the Wisconsin Institute of Discovery Town Center on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus Friday, June 7, 5:30-7 p.m..
The Mann Scholars Program's goal is to provide mentoring and educational tools to students from the Madison Metropolitan School District who show potential for academic achievement but face significant challenges to reaching their full potential.
The Mann Scholars program honors the legacy of Gobermann’s parents, Bernard and Kathlyn Mann, African American parents whose children graduated from Madison schools and went on to earn college degrees. After the Mann parents’ deaths, family and friends created an endowment fund through the Madison Community Foundation to support the academic achievement of promising high school students, who are selected districtwide as eighth graders.
